Meet Dr. Markus Niederwanger

Dr. Markus Niederwanger is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and fellowship trained in Pain Medicine. He joined Midwest Pain Institute in August 2005 after completing an ACGME accredited fellowship in Pain Medicine with special emphasis on Interventional Pain and Spine procedures at Emory University/Georgia Pain Physicians. Dr. Niederwanger specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of back and spinal pain.

In 1998, Dr. Niederwanger received his medical degree from Eberhard-Karls-University in Tuebingen, Germany. During his medical education he trained one year at UCLA School of Medicine. After graduation, he completed an 18-month Orthopedic Surgery training program at RWTH School of Medicine Aachen, Germany. Next, Dr. Niederwanger continued his training with a surgical internship and a PM&R residency at the University of Kentucky. He served as chief resident and in 2004 received the David L. Cowen Award for outstanding performance as a resident.

Dr. Niederwanger is a member of several professional societies including the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, the American Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the Physiatric Association for Spine, Sports and Occupational Rehabilitation.

Dr. Niederwanger lives with his wife in Brownsburg, IN. They enjoy bicycling, traveling and watching college basketball.
